Well this was interesting. As some of you may know, I did some snarky phrase designs a few years back and put them on cafepress. It's not huge money but it pays the light bill here and there. Anyway, one of them was a little joke on percussionsists, it read:
Union Scale: $125
Cartage: $450
Only having to play seven notes: Priceless
I got a note from cafepress today telling me that mastercard was claiming copyright infringement, and they were taking it down.
It is too bad that there is no money to be made here, otherwise I would jump on this case. What do you think? Does mastercard own copyright on any list of words that end with the word "priceless? And does the "fair use /parody" exception apply or no? I throw myself on the mercy of the court.
