The Muffingate Myth

I was watching the Daily Show last night with Bill O'Reilly as guest . . . amazing how the desire to hawk a book will overcome political differences . . .  anyway in the interview Bill O pointed out massive government waste as a reason for not raising any taxes, and used the "muffingate" scandal as an example (where the Dept of Justice supposedly paid $16 apiece for 250 muffins).

So, quick info here folks, this is a lie.  The $16 muffin story is a distortion of an invoice for a full breakfast buffet at a Hilton Hotel, where 250 people all had access to a full breakfast buffet for $16 each, and that included tax and gratuity.  The govt should be applauded for getting such a fab price for a meal in a large hotel.

What truly distrubs me about this is not that the facts were so massively distorted on a major TV show by a a very influential person, or that Jon Stewart didn't have facts at the ready to counter this.  What bothers me is what I don't know.   How many other twisted facts are being presented to me that I am NOT catching?  Am I being swayed by lies without knowing it?

On a similar note, I somehow got onto Sen Scott Brown's email list.  It's weird.  I was actually hoping he would be a good influence, but in these emails I never get any info on his positions on issues, all I get are pleas from his daughter and his campaign manager asking for money to fight the vicious liberals intent upon destroying him.

And we wonder why there's gridlock in government?  it's because we tolerate it.
