Unexpected Search Engine Optimization

Well here it's been about three years since I started this blog.  My how time flies.

Part of paying my $9 a month to Typepad gives me a little chart that tells me how many people visit the blog.  It also has a nifty feature; it doesn’t tell me who you are, but if you surfed into it from a google search, it tells me what that search term was.  And I have to say, I am nothing short of astonished at just how many google searches have my blog in the top 10 results.

The most common of course is “orchestra contractor,” from a blog I wrote 7 years ago when I stopped working as an orchestral contractor.  I have owned the #1 google search spot for years.

Other search terms for which I am currently the #1 google search result:

powers of perception

seal team 6 humor

words you can't say on facebook

Cultural Silos

trip to rome  (and it is ahead of yahoo and frommers)

then I am in the first page/ top ten results for:

My Trip to Rio

My trip to Paris

Self reinvention

problem solving skills

toyota lean thinking

radical education reform

mistake Management
   and
Time for Less Homework

And I pretty much fill the entire first page of google searches for my name, as well as the titles of my books and main theatrical pieces.

of course, as a slave would say to returning victorious roman generals, “all glory is fleeting.”
