I had a fascinating experience on twitter yesterday.
Here’s the deal, I got a free coupon from Google for $100 worth of ads. Of course, one must then open up an adwords account, which is a considerable foray into gobbledygook form land.
Well, I laboriously filled everything out and I thought that my ads would appear instantaneously, but they didn’t. Somewhere in the ad words instructions it said they would appear instantaneously, later on, I discovered that they have to “review” them.
So I was sitting here quite vexed and frustrated, not knowing if I had screwed up the form filling out or if I just had to wait. I got no immediate response from ad words help. (Note they do respond within about six hours.)
So anyway, I decided to vent a little bit on twitter. I posted a tweet just mentioning that I was a little frustrated with my ads not showing up.
Well then out of the total blue, I get a helpful bit of advice from someone named @XurxoVidal that I’ve never heard of. Note, I wasn’t really asking for help in my tweet, I was just kvetching and sharing my experience. And he gave me just the info I needed.
I cannot begin to tell you just how impressed I was that this guy took it upon himself to seek me out of the tweether (twitter+ether– my new word) and offers some expertise– totally for free no less.
I’m constantly trying to tell people that opportunity is infinite. Instead of thinking about what you want, think about what your potential customers need, and you’ll never be bored. Instead of posting an ad, this guy proactively went out and found someone (i.e., me), who needed assistance. You think I was not impressed?
Now granted, I will probably never actually pay this guy any money, as I’m too small of an operator at the moment. But you can bet I’ll be mentioning him (@XurxoVidal) in my next talk about innovative marketing. And if anyone ever asks me about adwords issues I am going to just send them all right to him.
