Post-Election Lessons from the Master

There is a story told by Machiavelli, where the ancient Romans besieged a city for three years, and finally gave up. As they were packing up to leave, the citizens inside the city lined the parapets, taunting and jeering. On hearing this, the Romans unpacked.  They  then attacked the city with renewed fervor.  Within just a few hours, they had breached the walls, and they killed everybody inside.

Moral of the story: Don’t be a poor winner today.
